Husein Poonawala M.D.
Dr. Poonawala, founder and director of The Vein Clinic of Dallas, is a Harvard trained Vascular & Interventional Radiologist. He has a depth of experience and accreditation in his field; board certified by the American Board of Radiology and a diplomat of the American Board of Venous & Lymphatic Medicine.
His childhood fascination with airplanes initially earned him an undergraduate degree with high honors in Aerospace Engineering at Purdue University. His ultimate desire however, was simply to help people and so switched gears, enrolling in medical school shortly after. With hard work and commitment, Dr. Poonawala graduated at the top of his medical school class.
During this time, Dr. Husein Poonawala found his calling in the minimally-invasive surgical specialty of Vascular & Interventional Radiology. Awed by cutting-edge procedures drastically improving medical care, he realized his new passion and pursued this exciting field.
His high achievements during his rigorous Radiology residency program at LSU Health Shreveport gained him acceptance to the prestigious Harvard Vascular and Interventional Radiology fellowship program at the Brigham & Women’s Hospital. Mentored by world-class clinical leaders and several key innovators, he strengthened his appreciation for advanced vein care and the immense positive impact a well-suited treatment plan can create.
Upon completion at Harvard, Dr. Husein Poonawala served as a Vascular & Interventional Radiologist and managing partner at a busy private practice in Shreveport, Louisiana. During this time, he established the comprehensive vein care service, introducing the latest varicose vein treatment options to the community. He quickly became the go-to vein specialist for his well thought-out treatment plans and novel techniques, helping numerous patients reclaim their legs.
His background as a minimally-invasive Interventional Radiologist allows him mastery of ultrasound imaging and vascular procedural techniques, imperative in diagnosing and treating challenging vein disease. Having performed thousands of advanced venous procedures throughout the body, Dr. Poonawala decided to focus his efforts entirely towards medical and cosmetic vein disease, establishing the modern Vein Clinic of Dallas.
His vision is to continue helping the community conquer vein disease with his detail-oriented, empathetic treatment philosophy.
